Meditation as Middleware: The Case for a Consciousness Layer in the Modern Stack

Every meaningful platform shift of the last thirty years has been won by the team that built the boring middleware. Payments, identity, telemetry. The interesting work happened above and below. The value accrued in between.

Consciousness is, structurally, the same shape. The hardware (the body) is solved. The application layer (apps, content, retreats) is saturated and commoditizing. The middleware — the protocols that adjudicate attention, mediate state, and route intention — is essentially empty.

We believe this middleware will look less like a meditation app and more like a calm, observable, well-documented API. It will have rate limits. It will have an SLA. It will, almost certainly, be open source at the protocol layer and proprietary at the implementation layer.

We are funding three teams in this space. None of them describe themselves as wellness companies. All of them describe themselves as infrastructure.
